Five marketing solutions for troubled times.

We know that growing your business in a struggling economy
can be a challenge. The financial turmoil experienced across
the globe has the media in a frenzy, politicians pandering and
the entrepreneur panicking. We have decided that since most
of the recent news has gone from bad to worse, that we would
shed some light on the situation and offer solutions and advice
to help our clients during this time of need.

The common misconception is that one must cut marketing and
advertising budgets—or other “unnecessary” spending, to survive
an economic downturn. Taking the opposite approach can keep
you afloat. Marketing more aggressively during a downturn makes
perfect sense because new opportunities become available. Not
only are there better deals on ad space, there are also fewer
competing messages because your competitor has already
slashed their own budget. This gives you stronger brand-building
potential and establishes you in the market when the economy
gets back on track.

Here are 5 things to keep in mind and help you through to better times:

  1. When you have a great product/service that’s selling well—keep it that way. Avoid finding cheaper ways to produce because it will drive business away and your customers will notice the difference.

  2. Spend your marketing budget on items that target the needs of your customer, NOT the needs of the masses. The more you focus your marketing efforts around the customers buying your product/service,
    the more you grow.

  3. Take viral marketing seriously. Most people highly underestimate
how fast a message can spread.

  4. Be sure to have permission from your customers BEFORE you
send mass email blasts. The more you spam them, the more likely
you will send them straight into the arms of a competitor.

  5. Always keep your existing customers top of mind. Just because
they bought from you once, does not mean they’ll buy from
you again. A returning customer is often more valuable than
    a new client.

We hope these tidbits will help you get through these troubled times,
and get you on the right track to a better, more profitable business.
